We have been interrailling twice (so far), and thought we would talk a little bit about what we would suggest doing whilst backpacking through Europe. We could recommend so many more but we've condensed our trips into ten small highlights.
So, here are our top 10 things to do/ see when interrailing around Europe:
Number one
Go to Sziget festival in Budapest. It's held on K- Hid island on the Danube river in Budapest, it is a truly amazing experience, with so much more to do than just listen to the live acts performing there ! You can live it up at the main stage, then continue partying in the all night bars, and finish the night watching the stars by the river, perfect !
Number two
Go to a Sparty ! A Sparty is an party event run in the Szechenyi Baths in Budapest, and tend to be held once a week through the summer. It is well worth the visit. Make sure you pre-book your ticket as they are highly popular, and lets be honest, who doesn't love a party in water, and hot water too !
Number three
Party the day AND night away at the Zurich Street Parade in Switzerland. This is no ordinary street parade, it's free, and DJ's are transported around the city on cool moving platforms, its definitely not one to miss !
Number four
Climb to the top of Prague's castle, for an amazing viewpoint of the whole city, it's truly a beautiful sight, as is the castle itself. while the walk is LONG and super tiring in midday heat, the views are totally worth it.
Number five
Climb/ get a bus/ taxi to the top of piazzale michelangelo square, for the most wonderful viewpoint and panoramic view of Florence. We got a taxi, because it was cheap (also we couldn't find the bus), and had been walking all day ie. we are lazy, but we have been told the hike up isn't too bad. The views from the square are definitely something to see (checkout our insta).
Number six
Grab a bottle of champagne (or a cheap bottle of wine in our case) and stare in awe at the Eiffel Tower as it illuminates the Parisian skyline. It's definitely a must if you're planning on visiting Paris !
Number seven
Get an overnight sleeper train, it may sound crazy, and trust us our experience definitely was, but waking up to some amazing views is an experience like no other ! It also provides some hilarious moments when your trying to assemble your bunk !
Number eight
Visit Interlaken in Switzerland, the surrounding mountains are breathtaking, and Lake Brienz is absolutely stunning, boasting crystal clear water and a majestic scenery, capsulating the sound of music !
Number nine
If you ever come to London on your interrail route, visiting the West End to see a show (we recommend Matilda, Wicked and Dream Girls to name a few!), is a must, as well as a trip down Carnaby street. And don't forget to say hi to the queen !
Number ten
And last but not least, if you have a little extra cash, or just fancy living the celebrity lifestyle for a few days, head to the south of France, we went to Cannes, Nice, Montpellier and Villefranche. Villefranche gets our highest recommendations for the south, its beautiful beach, calming atmosphere and stunning Mediterranean views are one for the bucket list.
